The prolific Golden Slipper Day is almost upon us, and will headline horse racing this weekend, as Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse hosts the day which will consist of nine top races – the fourth of which is the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m).
With four fantastic Group 1 races on Saturday, the Queen of the Turf Stakes will begin just before 2pm, and see 13 elite fillies and mares compete for the $400,000.
Drawing the inside barrier is the Anthony Cummings-trained Sister Madly. The daughter of Redoute’s Choice was already a strong contender having finished third in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes (1200m), and now has the advantage of barrier one.
Having to deal with the disadvantage of the outside barrier for the Queen of the Turf Stakes is Ekstreme. The four-year-old has not had an impressive race of late, and will not benefit from the barrier draw.
Gai Waterhouse’s More Joyous, one to watch for Saturday’s race, will start from the middle sixth barrier.
Typhoon Tracy, one of the top picks for the 2010 Queen of the Turf Stakes, drew the 10th barrier. But the Red Ransom mare has won from wide barriers before, and is certainly setting herself up as the horse to beat.
