The Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous confirmed her status as one of Australian racing’s all time greatest mares with an outstanding win in the $400,000 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Day, Saturday April 2.
Notching her fifth Group 1 victory in the 2011 Queen of the Turf Stakes, four-year-old More Joyous saluted for the punters after starting odds-on favourite at $1.24.
Customers at Luxbet, however, enjoyed a better price on the favourite.
Coming off three straight wins this preparation, More Joyous was never threatened in her magic Rosehill run on Saturday, jockey Nash Rawiller easing her to an effortless 2 ¾ length win over the Gerald Ryan-trained Melito ($8.50) while John Thompson’s $51 roughie Happy Hippy was a further 1 ¾ lengths away third.
More Joyous has now won 14 of her 18 starts to date earning in excess of $2.2 million in prize money.
Her next autumn assignment is the $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 16.
Before her Queen of the Turf victory, More Joyous was the ante-post favourite in the Doncaster Mile odds at Luxbet.
With a number of other Golden Slipper Day winners and placegetters having also show the ideal form for the Doncaster, it will be interesting to see how betting for the famous mile is affected at Luxbet.
