Betting markets have opened for the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, which is set to take place at Rosehill Racecourse this Saturday April 7, 2012.
More Joyous is now the $1.80 favourite for the 2012 Queen Of The Turf Stakes after Cox Plate winning mare Pinker Pinker tragically died yesterday.
Pinker Pinker was receiving a routine injection to lubricate her joints when she suffered suspected anaphylactic shock and died suddenly.
While trainer Greg Eurell remained too upset to comment on Pinker Pinker’s passing, his stable’s racing administrator Sara Ashworth shed some light on the mare’s untimely death.
“She was just about ready to get on the float and was just getting her last-minute treatments,” Ashworth said.
“She’s had the same injection 100 times before probably in the last couple of years.
“It’s just an anaphylactic reaction, basically.
“The vet was giving her a needle and that was it.”
Despite the notable admission of Pinker Pinker, the race will still be run with a star-studded field.
More Joyous will be looking to back up from her win in the Group 2 Canterbury Classic last start.
The More Than Ready mare will be second up in the 2012 Queen Of The Turf Stakes and will be looking to keep hopes of an unbeaten autumn carnival alive.
