The 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes is due to take place at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday April 6, 2013.
Run over a distance of 1,500 metres, the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes is open to fillies and mares aged three years and older.
The 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes is worth $400,000 in prize money and is run under weight-for-age conditions.
More Joyouswill attempt to win her third straight Queen Of The Turf Stakes when she lines up for the race next month.
The six-year-old finished second to stable mate Pierro in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes last start and trainer Gai Waterhouse was proud of the effort from both horses.
“What an outstanding, outstanding colt,” she said. “The way he pins those ears back, digs deep and when it gets tough, he just keeps going. He doesn’t have blinding acceleration but he has this ability to sustain a long sprint that other horses can’t match.
“But nothing can be taken away from More Joyous because she did not give up, she was tenacious, and she was taking ground off Pierro.
“Aren’t I lucky to be training two champions like Pierro and More Joyous.”
Owner John Singleton confirmed More Joyous would likely contest her third Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
“I’d say we will go to the Queen Of The Turf Stakes next and then we will have to think about the Doncaster,” he said.
“There is always the All Aged Stakes but everyone needs to know whether the ATC is going to increase the prize money.”
