2015 Queen Of The Turf Stakes May Figure for Estonian Princess

December 12th, 2014

Finding typically competitive form over her current racing preparation, trainer Scott Aspery has revealed at berth in the 2015 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) beckons for classy mare Estonian Princess should she not win Saturday’s featured Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Claiming three impressive race wins and a further six minor places from just 21 competitive appearances on course so far, Estonian Princess finished fifth in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) first-up this time, and while unlucky to be blocked for a run when ninth in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) on September 27th, responded well in finishing second in the Group 3 Angst Stakes (1600m) and a credible fifth in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).

Having since placed fifth in the Group 3 Summond Stakes (1500m) and a close second in the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) most recently, Aspery told AAP the ballot-free entry to the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) offered to the Villiers Stakes victor will be taken advantage of if received, however the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf will figure should she not taste success this weekend.

“It would be nice for us to get a win in the Villiers, send her out with that on the board as a reward for her consistency over the preparation,” Aspery said.

“The carrot with the Villiers is the Doncaster exemption. That would be nice to have in the back pocket for the autumn.

“Obviously there is the Queen Of The Turf Stakes for her but if she wins the Villiers, the Doncaster is there.

“And you’re not under pressure to qualify and move up the order of entry to get into a race like that because, with the prize money the way it is for the autumn now, everybody wants to get into a race like the Doncaster.

“There is a kilo-and-a-half turnaround in her favour and it’s a benefit to her but I honestly think if she had clear running in the Festival she would have won that and won it quite convincingly.”
